Collagen, the cement that holds it all together

Collagen is the body’s most important building block and it makes up approximately 30% of the proteins in our bodies. Collagen is a key structural protein that ensures the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of all our connective tissues including skin, cartilage and bones. In essence, it is the ‘glue’ that holds everything together. It strengthens various body structures and the integrity of our skin.

With age, less collagen is produced naturally by our body, and the first signs of ageing start to occur. As from around the age of 30 and accelerating in our 40’s, loss of collagen affects all the connective tissues, such as skin, joints and bones.

Different types of collagen are found in different parts of the body. Collagen is present not only in our bones, joints, tendons, ligaments and skin, but also in all the smooth muscle tissues, blood vessels, and in other organs. Collagen is even a major component of our hair and nails. The majority of our body’s collagen is composed of type 1 collagen.

Different cells in our body tissues are responsible for the production of collagen. The cells use specific amino acids and peptides as building blocks to produce the large collagen helix structure, which is then organised into the strong fibres that provide structural tissue support.

Marine Collagen contains 18 amino acids, the building blocks of our tissues and the primary component of proteins. Glycine, proline and hydroxy-proline represent around 50% of total amino acid content; the glycine and proline concentration is 10 to 20 times higher than in other proteins. As a result, our Marine Collagen offers Nutri-functional properties that cannot be found in other protein sources.

How to Use

Add 1 teaspoon to your favourite hot or cold beverage, once per day.

Our collagen can also be added to smoothies, soups, curries and is dissolvable in hot or cold liquids.
