The human body love baths because they relax us, lowering our blood sugar, and blood pressure levels preparing us for sleep. Whether you’ve had a long day at work or you just want to mellow out before bed, there isn’t much else better than taking a hard-earned hot bath. Taking a bath at the end of the day is one of life’s great pleasures, water so hot, that when you’re fully submerged you go “ahh”. There is also more we can do in a bath besides getting clean and ready for bed. Your body has to process all different kinds of toxins throughout the day, and need to sweat them out.
An ultimate detox bath is the best way to encourage your body to release all these bad toxins within you, whilst offering some other benefits. Read on and learn how to make the perfect detox bath and how they work, and what they can do for your body.
What is a detox bath?
A detox bath is essentially just a normal bath, but with natural ingredients designed to help you release any build of toxins you may have to help you further relax. It’s best to take a bath once a week, to begin with, for around 20 minutes. If you build a consistent routine, you can have a few detox baths a week, for up to an hour at a time. Keep an eye on your skin if you take multiple a week for any signs of drying, itching and dehydration.
How do the ingredient in the detox bath work?
A detox bath promotes your body to sweat out toxins through the pores, whilst absorbing healthy minerals and nutrients to help with your bodily health. The ingredients in a detox bath all work in conjunction to ensure your body is removing all the bad toxins and replacing them with essential oils and giving you a fresh clean.
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is a natural source of magnesium, with anti-parasitic and toxin properties. Your body will absorb the magnesium, which can help reduce body aches, sore muscles and help build your immune system. Simultaneously Epsom salts encourage your skin to sweat, helping draw out harmful toxins.
Bentonite Clay
Bentonite clay powder is a heavy-duty product that further helps in absorbing oils, toxins and cleaning off dead skin cells. Bentonite contains properties that benefit your skin, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents work to soothe and restore your skin, to help with issues such as dermatitis and acne.
Essential Oils
Whilst your body is being rid of oils and toxins, essential oils are there to help rehydrate yourself. Basically, you’re swapping out bad, dirty oils for fresh clean oils. There are numerous scented oils you can use, to keep your body smelling fresh. Lavender essential oils are a popular choice, for their beneficial properties and attractive smell.
Baking Soda
Your body may gain an excess of oils it doesn’t need while you run a detox bath. So baking soda works to ensure you’re getting the right amount. The baking soda works to clean your body and can help reduce skin irritation.
Why might you feel sick after a detox bath
A common side effect of having a detox bath is feeling light-headed or sometimes nauseous.
Feeling light-headed can be normal, the bath contains a lot of essential ingredients and may overwhelm your system a little if you’re dehydrated or the water is too hot. Make sure you drink lots of water before, during and after the bath. To help, you might want to reduce the percentage of ingredients you put in your bath for a smaller dose to start with.
You shouldn’t ever feel nauseous though, and if you do, this might usually be caused by an excess amount of Epsom salt in the bath. If these symptoms persist, contact your doctor as it might be a red flag for your health.
